Private driver, airport transfers, and what every distance actually costs you

Bali has no rail network, and distances that look small on a map are not small in practice — 45 kilometres to Ubud is a two-hour drive in the middle of the day. Plan around driving time rather than kilometres, and put the long drives at the start and end of the day rather than across the middle of it.

A private driver

The standard way to cover any distance here, and what we do. You get an air-conditioned car, a driver who waits while you are inside, and a fixed price for the day including fuel and parking. It is not a luxury option in Bali — for two or more people it is usually cheaper than a string of separate taxis, and vastly less tiring. Child and booster seats are free; tell us ages and weights when you book so we fit them before we collect you.

Airport transfers

Every tour in this brochure includes air-conditioned private transport, door to door, with fuel, parking and your driver's time. We also run standalone airport pickups and full-day charters if you would rather build your own route as you go.

Once you are through customs you will meet a wall of people offering transport. If we are collecting you, your driver will be past that wall holding your name, and will walk you to the car park — we will send you a photo and a plate number the day before, so you know who you are looking for.

Child seats

Child seats and booster seats are available at no extra cost — please request them when booking, with your children's ages and weights, as we fit them before pickup.

Ride apps and taxis

Grab and Gojek work in most of south Bali and show the fare before you accept. Some areas — parts of Ubud, some beach car parks and market frontages — have local transport co-operatives that do not allow app pickups; walk a street or two away rather than arguing. Among street taxis, the metered blue Bluebird cars are the reliable ones; ask for the meter as you get in.

Practical notes

Worth knowing before you book

Transport.: Every tour includes private air-conditioned transport door to door, with fuel, parking and your driver's time. Child and booster seats are free — request them when booking.
Temple etiquette.: Sarong and sash at every temple for adults and children alike, shoulders covered, and step aside for ceremonies and offerings on the ground.
Season.: Dry season runs roughly April to October — best for volcano sunrises and island crossings. Wet season brings fuller waterfalls and greener terraces, with short afternoon downpours.
Payment.: Carry cash in rupiah for entrance fees, parking, donations and village workshops; cards are reliable only at larger venues and beach clubs.
Pacing.: Two or three tours make a comfortable day; four is a rush. With children under 6, plan on two.
Minimum ages: are set by each operator and do change. Tell us your children's ages and we will confirm every limit before your date.
